While it’s easy to transition from school to summer holidays this July, it’s the exact opposite in preparing the kids back to school.
Summer (or even winter) holidays is an action-pack season for kids with rich experiences such as going to the beach and eat ice cream, see families and friends to play with, or taking a road trip to discover the world. Here we list our ultimate back-to-school hacks for kids (and you) to get back to the school groove.
1 / Novelty is a crowd pleaser
New school year is about fresh books, clean bags, washed sneakers, and bigger sized uniforms. Run through all those new, like new or refurbished items in your list with your preschooler to get them excited of the school year ahead.
2 / Join parenting groups in school
Rekindle friendships or find new ones by joining your child’s new class’ whatsapp or other forms of parenting group. Volunteer as a class representative and organize playdates after school or weekends. Make mum and dad friends to model social confidence to your children to reduce anxiety around the first few days of school.
3 / Whip up amazing lunch boxes
Time to head back to Pinterest and get inspired with unique lunch ideas that will pop out of the cafeteria table. From delightful meals to lunch box accessories, make every meal engage the senses. Our favorite is making Peppa Pig character pasta.
4 / Slide back to school routines
Use Montessori routine cards like Cubo Sticky Schedules to help with routines and transitions. Pre-readers and emerging readers can take on visual cues to know what’s next so it’s easier to move from one activity to the next, a sure fire win and one of our ultimate back-to-school hacks for school readiness.
5 / Prep the mud area or corner
Line up lockers with pre-filled backpacks, bins for umbrellas, hooks for raincoats or scarves, boxes for shoes, and baskets for accessories. Season that mud area with fall colours and a sturdy rug plus a an inspirational frame to kickstart the day.
6 / First day of school photo
Print a First Day of School photo or simply surprise him with a photo then frame it at the door. Collect those photos over the years and create a collage as the years go by. But, have a tissue nearby just in case 🥲.
